From Fornells, by passing along a coastal path, one reaches Platja Fonda, a highly singular bay both in its location and access and its physical features. The beach is quite literally sunken down to a remarkable depth in relation to the path along which one gets to it, the last section being formed by a long set of steps that go down and emerge in a truly out-of-the-way and wild spot. The fact that it forms a nature hideaway has allowed the bay to remain unspoiled and to retain a primitive purity only rarely found at other places along the Costa Brava.
Dark hues are the order of the day at Platja Fonda, both in its waters and the rocks that surround it. Presiding over the beach, upon Cap Rubí point, there stands Doctor Arruga’s house. Located a little way beyond Cap de Begur, the beach can be reached along the coastal path that runs out of Fornells and down a long set of steps that descend to the parking area. It can also be reached by sea. The beach is some 100 metres long and has coarse, dark sand that lends it a very peculiar appearance. Due to its difficult access, the only service facility it has is a beach bar. It is one of the most peaceful places along the entire Begur coastline.
