Home » Sa Riera beach, Begur
Sa Riera is Begur’s largest beach and the one closest to the town. It is very easy to get to from the town, simply by taking the ring road and going down to the bay. It can also be reached from Sa Tuna or Aiguafreda along the road that connects the various towns. Sa Riera, whose name comes from the stream that divides the beach into two halves, retains the former fishermen’s houses and has a boat club offering various leisure activities. Its geographical location is excellent: to the right is the sheltered bay of Port d’Es Pi, while to the left lies Rei bay, from which one can take the coastal path to stroll to Illa Roja and Pals beaches.
The small township of Sa Riera can offer visitors a broad range of hotel or apartment accommodation, as well as bars and restaurants at which to enjoy the local cuisine. Every summer the beach becomes a choice setting for the traditional habanera recital held there. The 350-metre length of Sa Riera bay is divided into three beaches, with Rei bay to the north and Port d’Es Pi to the south. Having been awarded a blue flag each year since 1995, it is very well equipped and has a boat club offering varied sports activities related with the sea. The layout of the built-up parts is formed by a number of buildings and apartments dispersed between the pines, with restaurants, bars, two shopping centres, a campsite and two hotel establishments. The bay can be reached from the Begur road or, on foot, along the coastal path from Platja del Racó. Sa Riera can also be reached from the south along a road which, hugging the coastline, runs between Aiguafreda and Sa Tuna.
